I was able to work with similar figures with math, and by using draw tools I could create similar figures more easily, and by bringing a drawing in behind a similar drawing, i could make them more exact and similar.
Question: How can I label vertices right where they are, and not on a line of word processing, somehow by wrapping the text, or overlapping?

Hey Fran,
I think you'd want to use a text box if you want to label vertical or horizontal vertices. You probably want to change the Format of the text box for no fill and no line. You can drag this box around to put it next to the vertices you want to label.
To change the text to vertical, click on the text box to select it, then click on the Format drop down menu and then Text Direction.
If you want to make text on an angle, you can create a plain looking WordArt (I usually use the second from the left, one row down, can change it to no shadow and black font color), then change it Format to In front of text Wrapping style (on the Layout tab). Once you do this, you'll notice a green dot above the WordArt when you select it. This is the rotate handle. You can click on it and rotate the WordArt to whatever angle you want. In addition, you can drag the WordArt close to what you want to label.
If you want me to show you this in class, let me know.
